Washington, D.C. September 2024

God showed Himself in many ways as I navigated D.C.

Stepping into Washington D.C. for the first time on my own during the third week of September was an experience I’ll never forget. Thanks to Mark’s excellent orientation in July, I felt prepared and confident from start to finish. Despite the bustling congressional schedule, I managed to reconnect with most of the staff members Mark and I met during our previous visit. It was heartwarming to see their faces light up with recognition when I mentioned Mark’s name. His impact on their lives was evident and inspiring.

During this trip, I had the privilege of meeting and praying with several congressmen for whom I regularly pray with their friends back in their districts. Their appreciation for the prayer support from their hometown friends was palpable and deeply moving. There were several highlights from this visit that stood out to me. One of the most touching moments was meeting a young staffer who had just been hired last July, only to find out that his congressman was retiring. I had the opportunity to pray with him, asking God to guide and provide for him as he searches for a new job next year.

Another memorable encounter was with a young staffer who helped me when I got lost in the maze-like tunnels between the House Office Buildings. His congressman represented a state where I had lived years ago. He graciously accepted one of my prayer cards and invited me to visit his congressman’s office the next time I’m in D.C. Throughout my visit, I handed out prayer cards to various staffers and congressmen, following God’s prompting. I even had the chance to give a couple of cards to congressmen having breakfast in one of the office building cafés. Their gratitude and expressed need for prayer were truly humbling.

Yes, politicians read their Bible and are leaning on the Lord

The most impactful visit was with a congressman who showed me a Bible given to him by one of his committee chairmen. This Bible was organized to be read through in a year, and the congressman shared how it was speaking to him in new and profound ways, despite having read through the Bible before.

God is always opening doors for prayer

Despite the hectic congressional schedule, God opened doors and provided opportunities for me to connect with Mark’s past acquaintances and friends, allowing me to start building those same meaningful relationships.
