Washington D.C. December 2024

As One Door Closes, Another One Opens

My recent trip to Washington D.C. in early December was an unexpected adventure. I arrived to find that Congress was not in session. Instead of meetings, I felt a prompting to visit each of the Georgia House member's offices. This led me on a unique exploration, as the post-election shuffle had turned the halls into a maze of moving offices. Some of these spaces were new to me, and it felt like a blessing in disguise.

Meeting With A Familiar Face

Beyond office visits, the connections were profound. I found myself in a deeply spiritual moment of prayer with a janitor I had been introduced to. Later, while sitting amidst the chaos of moving furniture, I encountered a man from Capital Architecture. Sharing a prayer card sparked an unexpected conversation that led to us praying together for his family. It was a reminder that God is present in every corner of the capital.

We Are Not Serving Our Government Leaders Alone

The first evening, I had the privilege of dining with a brother from "Hope to the Hill." We explored how we could collaborate in our ministries, serving those who serve our nation. It was truly inspiring to see God using all walks of life to touch our government.

Our Leaders Are Just Ordinary People Like Us

The next day brought two surprise meetings with Congressmen I hadn't previously met. The conversations quickly shifted to heartfelt prayer, with the majority of their requests focused on their families back home – the pressures and pains of being separated from loved ones. These times of prayer were especially powerful. I also had the privilege of praying with a few staff members I had just met, and in one office, a simple act of leaving a prayer card was received with a grateful acknowledgement. My final day brought meetings with two Representatives who are connected to a weekly prayer group back home. Again, family was the primary need voiced in our prayer. It was a week of chill weather, but the heart was warmed seeing the hand of God moving throughout the capital.
